A small-growing cultivar of the Chinese Redbud, originating from New Zealand, hardly growing over 2 m tall in 10 years; leaves heart-shaped, dark green above and lighter below, turning yellow in autumn; flowers bright purple-red, numerous, appearing early in the season before the foliage along the entire twigs and branches. An ornamental shrub that is richly free-flowering even when young, suitable for small gardens, planting troughs etc.; prefers warm areas, but still winter-hardy. D, K, S, St. Zone 7a.
